Alarm of War by Kennedy Hudner5/26/2023 ![]() In other words, Ensign Dahl is a “red shirt” without actually wearing a red uniform. Ensign Dahl is thrilled to be onboard, but soon becomes apprehensive, because he quickly realizes that when lowly crew members accompany the captain, its chief science officer, or its chief engineer, those lowly crew members would bear the brunt of any dangerous action. ![]() ![]() In Redshirts, the author follows a young officer assigned to the Intrepid, the flagship of the Universal Union. As the show couldn’t lose any main cast members, the extras, playing security staff, would invariably be the ones to be maimed or killed. Those bridge officers were usually accompanied by security officers, and in the color scheme of the original series, security staff wore red shirts. Often, one or more officers left the ship on “away” missions, and they were almost always dangerous. ![]() In the show, the starship ventured from planet to planet. For the few folks who aren’t familiar with the show, there were a handful of officers who were the “stars” of Star Trek. Fans of Star Trek, the original series, will immediately understand the premise of this very humorous novel. ![]()

Moondance by Frank Asch5/26/2023 ![]() Most children in elementary school won't need help with pronunciation but it is still a good idea to have someone around to help just in case.Īnd what I most definitely like about this book is that it teaches children that not all desires are meant to be answered right away but can take time and that sometimes you have to be just as creative in your responses to what you are given. The writing is simple and easy to follow so this is a great book for adults to read to children just before they go to sleep or even for them to read during the day when you want silent time. ![]() ![]() ![]() And although I just came upon the realization that this is book is a part of a series it is more definitely one of those in which you don't have to read it in order that the books are given since there aren't that many relations to each book besides the main character, his friend the bird and the moon. This has been one of those interesting reads from my childhood and while I may not remember exactly as to how the full story goes when coming upon it in a list I am reminded of its relation to my earlier reading years. ![]()

Max Jackson noticed Trish at his cousin’s funeral, of all places. ![]() Okay, so she may read her share of romance novels, but that doesn’t mean she thinks that some fellow with a six pack is going to ride up on a horse and sweep her (literally) off her feet. Well wished by franny billingsley5/26/2023 ![]() ![]() My memories of that year come to me now as though through a magical lens: the statue of the Little Mermaid rising from the gray waves of the Copenhagen harbor myself at Christmas, wearing a crown of lighted candles the Snow Queen’s palace, present everywhere in the dark afternoons, the drifts of snow, the moon-shot ice. ![]() I read his stories over and over, especially The Snow Queen and The Little Mermaid. Denmark was a fairytale place, home of the great fairytale writer Hans Christian Andersen. I was most truly myself outside school, which is perhaps why I loved the year I left the American school system to spend fifth grade in Denmark. After all, I had a universe of friends inside my head. ![]() I was rather shy and solitary, but I don’t think I was lonely. Reading was the only thing I was any good at. I daydreamed instead of listening to the teachers I read instead of doing my homework. ![]() In fact, I never thought I’d be much of anything, because I was such a lousy student. Those ballads, with their melancholy stories and haunting melodies, seeped into my blood they flavored the stories I wrote inside my head, a new installment every night, night after night.īut I never thought I’d be a writer.
